May Day General Strike: Occupy Houston
Tuesday May 1, 2012. revolt for a life worth living:
Occupy “people” (that’s what mak and i call them) organized a General Strike/ Protest Rally in downtown Houston this morning. makenzie and I aren’t too involved with this group although a few of our Food Not Bombs friends do overlap here and there and we all pretty much share the same “vision”. anyway, a few weeks ago we volunteered to feed the protestors and so, drove down to city hall this morning to participate in part of the “mic-check” and share our donated bagels and pastries will all involved.
check out all the powerful signs:
the cops were never too far away, there were there for our protection… right?
If you we’re able to participate in the protest this morning, there’s still hope. turns out there is another commemoration rally in Bellaire at 5pm (thanks matt for the heads up) and the party continues well into the night with the General Strike Dance Party hosted by East Side Social Center (formerly Sedition Books) at 4202 Canal st. 8pm. FREE.
“no work, no school, no housework, no shopping, no banking, ONLY DANCING”
hope to see a bunch of you guys at the party, mak and i have been looking forward to it for weeks. please leave a comment if you know any more info or are planning to get your dance on tonight!
