buxton/the tontons concert at discovery green
as if grouting a mosaic table at my mom’s pre-school, bleaching a streak of my hair, and biking to Y.E.T.’s belly dance + yoga fusion class wasn’t enough fun for the day, i decided to meet my friend jackie for the weekly FREE concert hosted by UofH downtown at discovery green. this week’s concert featured the tontons and buxton; both great local bands that aren’t afraid to show some houston pride.
up first, the tontons. this little lady is known all over town, and heck probably the whole USA, for her sultry dance moves and killer cute outfits. listen to them on bandcamp HERE.
here’s jackie. my kind of friend, lover of free music in houston and not even a little ashamed to sit in the FRONT row with me.
just as the sun began to set, buxton took the stage. between buxton and ancient cat society (1/2 of the band’s side project) i bet i’ve been to almost every show they’ve played in houston in the past 3 years.
by the end of the show the humidity had taken the best of our hair, but we didn’t care. well, ok maybe a little.
plans for later today: three different art exhibition openings at the art league (one of them)(the other)(the other other), and the houston critical mass bike ride. i’m thinking i’ll be whipped after that, but if anyone’s interested, sounds like theres going to be a rad pop punk show at east side social center. did you get it facebook invitation?
as for saturday, i’m meeting up with an old college friend and festivalin’ it up around town. check out my houston events weekly calendar for some ideas of ways to fill up your saturday and sunday. and please feel free to leave a comment with any other local events i didn’t cover.
