St. Marks Between the Bayous Sustainability Series Movie Night: The Greenhorns!
NOTE: DON’T TELL DENA BUT I ACCIDENTALLY MADE THE PICTURES THE WRONG SIZE AND I AM TOO LAZY TO FIX THEM SO…SORRY. DEAL WITH IT. MAK.
Last Tuesday, Dena and I attended St. Marks Between the Bayous Sustainability Series Film Night! (Wow that’s a mouthful!) THe movie we went to see was called “The Greenhorns”, a film about young farmers making their way in the world going against expectations and also explored the future of farming in America. After the film, we discussed what we learned, why does it matter, and what do we do now? Some people focused on the idea of “honest work”, other people felt compelled to support the farmers, and some people decided to start selling their produce. The best part was everyone was warm and welcoming and I had a lot of fun hanging out with Dena and all these folks.
The event was held at the perennial favorite, Liberty Station. Folks were sitting outside enjoying the lovely weather as we were arriving.
Fun fact: the owner of Liberty Station said he has plans to open a new place in the Heights that’s going to include a farmer’s market. How cool is that?
Here’s me and Andrew hanging out before the movie started. Another fun fact about this night is that Dena and I got a super in-depth lesson about clerical wardrobes. Did you know there’s only 2 companies that sell clerical shirts? And they’re hella expensive? Look for an upcoming guest post about clerical wardrobes he he!
DENA NOTE: MAKENZIE MENT TO SAY “CLERGY” SHIRT, LIKE WHAT PREACHERS WEAR – NOT WHAT OFFICE WORKER WEAR. HE HE HE
Dena and I got dinner from Ladybird Food Truck, which I was convinced was an Indian fusion food truck, but I asked someone inside and they were like, “um…I don’t think so” and according to their website they are “Upscale Comfort Food” so I guess I stand corrected. Has anyone eaten there? Is it Indian fusion or what?
Here’s the video from Greenhorns in case you’re interested.

Between the Bayous will be showing another film in September so we’ll keep you posted on when the next movie night will be and hopefully you can join us!
