bremond road trip: day 1
well, makenzie and i made the summer-time resolution to “take more road trips” this year and so here we are, two road trips checked off the list. (here are our austin,tx road trip posts 1, 2, 3) my dad’s side of the family is from a little polish community in central Texas called “Bremond”; for the past 25 years this town has hosted a Polish Pickle Festival. my dad helped start the 5k run and now, 20+ years later we’re still celebrating. makenzie agreed to tag along this year. if she knew how early we’d be getting up to help with the race or how much physical labor i.e. moving hay bails and dealing with hot sweaty runners, she might not have so willingly agreed. none the less we spent the weekend in central texas and if nothing else, came home with a mild sunburn and 1/2 a dozen new inside jokes.
MAK’S NOTE: DENA DID NOT TELL ME THAT THERE WOULD BE WORK OR WAKING UP EARLY INVOLVED.
here is the Bremond Press office. makenzie and i spend a few hours here selling t-shirts and sorting race packets but thats nothing compared to the HOURS we spend here on the day of the festival.
MAK’S NOTE: YEP, THIS IS REAL LIFE. THIS OLD GUY IN SPURS WAS MOSEY-ING ACROSS THE STREET TO THE DRY BEAN SALOON.
makenzie couldn’t get over how HUGE the grasshoppers were.
if you didn’t know already, makenzie was one of those “horse girls” growing up. meaning that she got real excited when we happened upon these little guys on our dog walk.
MAK’S NOTE: DEFINITELY THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE TRIP. LOOK AT MY EYES.
i ate my 3rd cheese + white carb meal of the day at the Bremond “lunchbox” but hey, i’m not complainin’ i could live off bread and cheese.
we spent the last few hours of friday night at the Texas Slav and German Warehouse dancing to the store owner’s band.
outside a polka band was playing and the streets were full of late night partiers.
while taking advantage of the lack of light pollution a.k.a. lots o’stars we thought we’d take a few self-timmer jumping pictures outside our country house because who doens’t LOVE these. we ended up going to bed before midnight, seeing that we had to be at the press office around 6:30 am.
tomorrow we’ll post a whole ton of pictures from the 5k, parade, and street dance – get ready for polish pickle photo over load !!!
.dena & makenzie.
Good morning, I was hoping to contact you regarding your photos of Bremond. We are featuring Bremond in our local color magazine and we would like to use one of your photos for the cover of the mag. Please give me a call at 979-279-3411 and ask for Dennis.
