3 sandwiches . 1 day .

Welp, like the title says we ate a lot of sandwiches today but we also saw a lot of the city and did some great people watching.

First stop: Courtauld Gallery at Somerset House. When we were trying to find the place, my mom kept telling us to look for Somerset house. We didn’t know if we would be able to find it but it was actually very giant and very beautiful inside.

Next stop: Covent Garden, or as Dena would say, Covenant Market. We spent a couple hours wandering around listening to performers, looking at people, eating sandwiches, and shopping. In the corner in the above picture, you can see the string quartet serenading the crowds. Then people came around and asked us to give the money. NO WAY JOSE. Covent Garden is a pretty touristy area BUT we would actually highly recommend it. As Dena would say, “it’s cool touristy”. There are many international people shopping and they are all stylish.

Waffle break!! They tricked us because they made it seem like ice cream was included in the price but it wasn’t. OH WELL it was worth it because it was so good. We decided to just eat a bunch of little meals all day, which was a smart idea.

DENA NOTE: GOOD THING I BROUGHT ALONG MY REUSABLE SILVERWARE AND CUP, JUST SAVED A COUPLE OF PLASTIC THINGS FROM A BRITISH LANDFILL

Silver spoons at the market. We didn’t even bother looking at them because we assumed they would be too much.

Here’s the little stoop we sat on for an hour or so to watch the crowds. Dena brought her mug so we could be, ya know, green. One thing we are really enjoying about this trip is being able to take things slow. You probably already know this about me, but I am pretty introverted and I like to do things like read by myself. So moving slow is good for me.

DENA NOTE: I AM NOT INTROVERTED. I LIKE TO DO A MILLION THINGS ALL THE TIME.

SANDWICH 1: Hummus and falaffell (I had egg salad). “Pret a Manger” is THE go to restaurant for a quick bite here in London. There is one on every corner (LITERALLY). Fun fact: it’s usually cheaper to “take away” food than eat at the restaurant in London, so that’s what we did. Pret has many different cheap, healthy sandwiches for 1.50 – 4.oo pounds. Not a bad deal here.

Performances in Covent Garden! This is the best part: all the fun performances. He had volunteers from the audience wrap him in chains. Then he escaped. Then he guilted us into giving him money. Dang it.

DENA NOTE: THE PERFORMER TALKED TO ME. BEST PART OF MY DAY!

NEXT STOP: Westminster Walk and Parliment! Here’s the London Eye.

House of Parliament and the crowds.

Dena at Westminster Walk/the Thames (pronounced Tims).

Oliver Cromwell statue. Oliver Cromwell took over the english commonwealth when King Charles was beheaded back in the day. I don’t really know the whole story so you should google it. It’s a big deal.

DENA NOTE: AND NOW … GET READY FOR A WEIRDO-MAKENZIE-PHOTO-OVERLOAD … (EYE ROLLING)

HEHEHE me and Big Ben!

HEHEHE me and our pass to get in to House of Parliament! I actually went to some debates last week and it was SO COOL! It was especially cool because they were talking about the huge banking scandal that’s going on over here right now. (i don’t know if they’re talking about it in the U.S but yeah it was a big thing last week. Now you know).

HEHEHE guess what I’m doing in this picture? Making a pass at this hottie! Parliament is full of well dressed, young, hip, politicians. When we walked up and saw all the cuties, Dena said “It’s your heaven!” Yep. It was. I think I got whip lash from turning to look at everyone.

Me licking Big Ben! This photo took an inordinate amount of tries and I’m sure everyone was staring. Oh wait, they weren’t because whenever Dena and I are in a crowd we somehow turn invisible?

SANDWICH 2: Edam cheese, mustard, and rocket. Would not recommend.

Dena called this the best picture of they day. This is in the bathroom at the house of commons. We decided to not go to the debates because it was over an hour queue (no, I don’t mean netflix, I mean what they call a line here in London).

Next Stop: Westminster Abbey! Too expensive to tour so we found a corner and drew for an hour or so.

SANDWICH 3: Tomato, Brie, and Basil. BASICALLY THE BEST SANDWICH WE EVER ATE. Maybe even better than whole foods?

DENA NOTE: WE EVEN WENT BACK TO BUY MORE TOO STASH IN OUR PURSES FOR LATER. BEST SANDWHICH EVER.

Saw this rand-o walking down the street in a safety jacket carrying a sign that said Jesus?

DENA NOTE: THIS “SAFTEY VEST” REMINDED US OF SOMEONE BACK HOME IN HOUSTON, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE BIKER BOY.

NEXT STOP: Picadilly Circus! We were both pretty beat by this time but whatever. We ran a few errands, changed some money, bought some stamps and took a break on the steps of picadilly circus. (not actually a circus, just a big round about)

DENA NOTE: MAKENZIE FORGOT THE MOST IMPORTANT STOP OF THE DAY – WHOLE FOODS !!! OUR FAV.

Finally, home! Mom took us out for pizza and it was so good. I of course got the pizza with egg on it. SO GOOD.

THE END SO TIRED GOOD NIGHT
